David Honey

Dr David Honey holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Western Australia, where he also served as President of the UWA Science Union. His early career included roles as a Forensic Scientist and Environmental Scientist with the WA State Government, before founding the Hydrometallurgy Research Group at Western Australian Mining Corporation.
David spent over two decades with Alcoa, where he held a range of senior technical and executive roles, including Global Residue Manager for the company’s alumina refining operations in the United States, Spain, Brazil, and Australia. He also served as President of the Kwinana Industries Council from 2012 to 2018, leading advocacy and collaboration among major industrial operators in the region.
Now dedicating his time to the hydrogen industry, David brings a strong background in industrial chemistry, process innovation, and environmental stewardship to the HSA Board, supporting the Society’s mission to drive a sustainable hydrogen future.
