Sonia leads two key investment funding initiatives for the Geological Survey of Queensland, driving critical projects focused on mining and mineral efficiency. As CDP Grants Manager, she plays a crucial role in supporting Queensland companies that want to extract critical minerals that remains in ground or to recover remaining mineralization found in mine waste. Her work involves collaborating closely with client companies to ensure that project risks are monitored, innovation is promoted, and public funds are safeguarded through strong governance.


With over 25 years of experience in senior strategic roles at international mining and energy companies across Australia, Canada, leading down of projects around North and South America, Sonia has extensive expertise in capital project review and management. She has led large-scale interdisciplinary exploration and development programs across Queensland’s North Provinces, as well as the Southwest gas fields.


Sonia has spent 12 years assessing project risks, securing capital, and pursuing investment opportunities for new projects. Her engineering background, coupled with an MBA and a Master’s in Leadership for Economics in Mining, reflects her commitment to sustainability in the sector.
